Why renting as a soldier is usually a pain — and why it isn't here.
You know the drill by now. German rental chains almost universally start at age 25, and the few that go lower hit you with a steep "young driver" surcharge per day. Insurance gets bolted on at the counter as an extra fee. And the strongest thing on the lot is usually a diesel station wagon. A quick word on SOFA status: if you're here under the Status of Forces Agreement, your USAREUR license is recognized for driving in Germany, and a private rental like ours has no special restriction tied to your SOFA status — you rent as any qualified driver would. If all you have is your stateside license, that's where the IDP comes in to keep things clean and legal. When in doubt, bring both. Nobody was ever turned away for having too much paperwork.

We don't run a separate military discount on top of the list price — instead the price you see already reflects what the big chains only offer with surcharges stripped out: full insurance (Vollkasko) is included, there's no young-driver surcharge, and you can rent from age 18 instead of 25. For most soldiers that works out cheaper than a discounted rate with add-ons stacked on top. Ask on WhatsApp for longer bookings and we'll tell you honestly what we can do.

Bring your valid US license plus either an International Driving Permit (IDP) or your USAREUR driver's license. The IDP is just a certified translation of your home license — get one from AAA for about $20 before you travel, or use the USAREUR license issued on post. Either works.
Your valid US driver's license, an International Driving Permit (IDP) or your USAREUR license, a passport or military ID to verify identity, and a credit card in the renter's name for the security deposit. Minimum age is 18 with at least one year of driving experience.
For the security deposit we need a credit card in the renter's name. The deposit is held on your card and released after the car comes back clean. Everything else — booking and payment — happens online in about 60 seconds.
